Service Details

If you already have a gate but still get out of your car to open and close it, gate motorization is one of the best upgrades you can make. At AC Custom Metal Work, we convert existing manual gates into smooth, reliable automatic gate systems that add security, convenience, and value to your property. Since 2003, our family-owned, women-owned, minority-owned company has helped homeowners and property owners across Auburn, Seattle, Bellevue, Kent, Renton, Tacoma, and the surrounding areas improve how they access and protect their entrances.

We specialize in automated driveway gates, and we can motorize many types of existing gates, depending on their condition, layout, size, and swing or slide operation. Our team looks at the full setup before recommending equipment. That includes the gate frame, hinges or track, posts, power access, safety needs, daily use, and the space needed for proper gate travel. If your gate needs adjustments, reinforcement, or repair before automation, we can handle that too. Because we are a custom metal fabrication company, we do not treat your gate like a one-size-fits-all project. We build solutions around the gate you already have and the way you use it every day.

What gate motorization does for you

Adding an automatic gate opener makes daily entry easier and more secure. Instead of stopping, getting out, and manually moving a heavy gate, you can open and close it with the push of a remote, keypad code, phone-based access system, or other access control option. This is especially helpful during bad weather, late at night, or when you have frequent visitors, deliveries, or service vehicles coming in and out.

Motorizing an existing gate can also improve safety by creating controlled access at the entrance to your property. Many customers want more privacy, better traffic control, and a more professional look for their home, driveway, business, or private road. A properly installed gate operator helps accomplish all of that while giving the gate a clean, modern function.

Types of existing gates we can automate

We can evaluate and automate many common gate styles, including:

  • Swing gates
  • Sliding gates
  • Single gates
  • Double gates
  • Residential driveway gates
  • Some light commercial entry gates

Every existing gate is different. The right gate opener depends on the gate weight, length, material, frequency of use, and how the site is laid out. We commonly work with trusted hardware and operator brands such as LiftMaster, Chamberlain Elite, CellGate, and Locinox. These products are chosen based on performance, compatibility, and long-term reliability.

Our process

We make the process simple and clear. First, we schedule an on-site appointment with one of our estimators. We take measurements, inspect the current gate and supporting hardware, and talk with you about access methods, finishes, operation, and any concerns you have. After that, we send a complete itemized estimate for your review. We follow up after two days, and once the contract is signed and the down payment is collected, your project schedule begins.

From there, we order materials, complete any needed custom fabrication, install the motor and access components, test the system, and coordinate the final installation details with you. When the work is complete, we show you how to use your new automatic gate system and answer your questions before collecting final payment. For projects over $1,500, we require 50% down at signing and the remaining 50% at project completion.

What may be included in a gate motorization project

The scope of work depends on your current gate and your goals, but a gate motorization service may include:

  • Inspection of the existing gate, posts, hinges, rollers, and track
  • Gate reinforcement or light modifications for automation readiness
  • Installation of a gate operator for swing or slide movement
  • Remote controls and receiver setup
  • Keypad entry systems
  • Telephone or smart access controls, depending on the system
  • Safety devices such as photo eyes, sensors, and obstruction controls
  • Power setup coordination
  • Limit setting, force adjustment, and testing
  • User walkthrough and operation training

Our goal is not just to get the gate moving. We want it to open and close smoothly, safely, and consistently over time.

Why customers choose us for automatic gate upgrades

We are not just installers. We are a local custom metal work company with more than 20 years of experience and more than 1,000 gates installed. That matters when you are upgrading an existing gate, because older gates often need more than a basic opener kit. They may need alignment work, welded reinforcement, hardware replacement, or a smarter equipment choice to avoid future problems. With our fabrication background and hands-on field experience, we know how to look at the gate as a whole system.

Customers also choose AC Custom Metal Work because we are licensed, bonded, and insured, and we stand behind our work with a 60-month warranty on our craftsmanship. Our team of 8 serves the Seattle metro and surrounding communities with same-day quotes or visits when available. We believe in clear communication, honest recommendations, and quality work that fits the property.

Signs your current gate is a good candidate for motorization

You may be a strong candidate for this service if:

  • Your gate is structurally sound but operated by hand
  • You want easier daily access to your driveway or entrance
  • You want to improve privacy and controlled entry
  • You are tired of dealing with heavy or awkward gate movement
  • You want to add remotes, keypad entry, or other access control features
  • You want to modernize the look and function of your property without replacing the entire gate

If the gate has structural issues, sagging, worn hinges, poor track condition, or post movement, we can let you know what needs to be fixed before automation. In some cases, motorization is straightforward. In others, a few repairs or custom modifications are the right first step for a dependable result.

Timeline and service expectations

Most gate projects typically take about 3 to 6 weeks to complete, depending on the scope of work, equipment selection, needed fabrication, and scheduling. If your existing gate is already in good condition, motorization may be more straightforward. If custom reinforcements, repairs, or specialty access control features are needed, the timeline may be longer. We will explain the scope clearly before the project begins so you know what to expect.

Built for daily use

A well-motorized gate should do more than open and close. It should handle daily use with smooth movement, dependable controls, and the right safety features for your property. We design each system around how the gate will actually be used, whether that means regular family traffic, shared access, delivery drivers, visitors, or service entry. The result is a cleaner arrival experience and a more secure perimeter without the hassle of manual operation.

My wife and I could not be happier with the construction quality and design of a custom metal railing we just had installed on a stepped sidewalk approaching our home's entrance. My expectations were exceeded, as this railing a definitely a notch above any of the typical iron railings seen on most properties. Moreover, Brandon was very receptive my design preferences and easy to work with. I highly recommend AC Custom Metal Work.
